As of January 2025, Assemblymember Amy Paulin and Senator Hoylman, both submitted a very bad policy Bill in New York. This Bill is an assisted suicide/euthanasia bill. In Legislature, it is known as ‘Aid In Dying’ Bill. Here are the first few steps you can take to prevent this Bill from becoming legally available.
If you go to Albany or stay home, you all can help fight the Assisted Suicide/Euthanasia bad policy bill in New York.
The Bill numbers for this year 2025 are:
Assembly Bill #A00136
Senate Bill #S00138
If you do not go, it’s important that you call your State Legislator (Senate & Assembly representatives).
How to contact your legislator:
New York State legislature is divided into two separate bodies: the New York State Senate and the New York State Assembly. We are each represented by one State Senator and one State Assembly Member, each determined by your address.
- To find your NYS Senator: www.nysenate.gov/senators
- To find your NYS Assembly Member: www.assembly.state.ny.us
These elected officials like to be contacted by email or telephone. Or, you can contact their local office and ask for a meeting with the elected official or relevant staff member.
When you call or visit your Legislator, do the following:
- Introduce yourself and tell them that you are a constituent and a member of New York Against Assisted Suicide organization.
- Briefly mention your relationship to someone who has been affected.
- You are calling because there are a number of issues of concern to the community that you would like your Senator/Assembly Member to be aware of.
What to Talk About:
Hey are some ideas of what to say. The most important thing is that you contact your elected officials and let them know what you think. Do not assume they know anything about your issue: be prepared to educate your representative.
Some talking points are:
This year’s (2025-2026) bill numbers are: Assembly Bill #A136 Senate Bill #S138
There FIVE main talking points:
- This New York bill is not necessarily for those who are dying but also for those who have years/decades to live. Example: Jeannette Hall:
- There is no oversite: anything can happen behind closed doors. Even murder for the money (by an impatient heir. ) P.S. the lethal drug is required to be taken at home.
- There is no accountability.
- The Death Certificate is required to be signed, death by natural causes. Even if suspicion of murder took place (behind closed doors), there is an inability to prosecute with this type of death certificate.
- And finally, #5: these bills will allow for euthanasia, because they violate the American Disability Act.
